Happy Thanksgiving!
With the Thanksgiving season upon us, we have so much to be thankful for! We started our blog only a few short weeks ago, and we already have had over 1,200 views! We are fortunate to work together as SLPs for a fantastic school system and are surrounded by great colleagues. We opened our TpT store at the end of March this year and are amazed at how fast it is growing! Because we are so thankful, we want to share some of our blessings with you:) Below is a low-prep, low-ink Thanksgiving phonological awareness activity we have been doing this week. Click the link below and download this activity for FREE! If you like our work, please follow our TpT store and our blog.
We hope you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!!!

Pumpkin Fun
Is it really already November? This school year is passing by so quickly! The first week of November marks the beginning of our Thanksgiving season and this week we are using a pumpkin theme in our class. I wanted to share some of our favorite pumpkin books with you, so here it goes:
Pumpkin Trouble by Jan Thomas - Duck finds just the right pumpkin and can't wait to show her friends, Mouse and Pig, but she has a little trouble with her pumpkin. This is a great book to use for story retelling. The cute, simple illustrations make it easy for the students to retell the story.
Sixteen Runaway Pumpkins by Dianne Ochiltree - Sam, the raccoon, loads her wagon with pumpkins for grandpa, but soon all the pumpkins are falling out and rolling away. There are so many different ways to use this book in therapy. The story is rich in adjectives, descriptive verbs, and vocabulary. For those of you who may be doing inclusion, you can even incorporate a math lesson on doubling numbers.
The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano - Spookley is the story of a special square pumpkin who saves the day for his farmer when a great storm comes. We like to use this story as a character education lesson. It can be used for teaching students tolerance and acceptance of others who are different from them.
The Runaway Pumpkin by Kevin Lewis - This is the story of a huge runaway pumpkin that bumps and thumps its way down a hill until it lands in just the right spot where dear old Granny can cook up some delightful pumpkin surprises. This book can be used for practicing rhyming words or predicting what will happen next.
Some of our other pumpkin books include: I Like Pumpkins by Jerry Smath, Patty's Pumpkin Patch by Teri Sloat, Pumpkin Town by Katie McKy, and of course, our very favorite pumpkin book, The Ugly Pumpkin by Dave Horowitz.
Our students have had fun doing art projects during therapy this week. We used a small plastic cup dipped in orange paint to make pumpkins and added construction paper stems and leaves. They turned out so cute!
